Proverbs 30:4 (AMP)

Who has ascended into heaven and descended…  What is His name, and what is His Son’s name, if you know?

There are two people, according to the Bible, whom have ascended into heaven alive: Enoch (Gen 5:21-24; Heb 11:5) and Elijah (2Kings 11).

We know Jesus also ascended into heaven, “And when He (Jesus) had said this, even as they were looking [at Him], He was caught up, and a cloud received and carried Him away out of their sight.  And while they were gazing intently into heaven as He went…”  (Acts 1:9-10a)

Moreover, “When he (Jesus) ascended up on high, he led captivity captive, and gave gifts unto men”.  (Eph 4:8)

Therefore, we know the names of those whom ascended into heaven.

However, according to Proverbs 30:4 the question is, “Who has ascended into heaven and descended?”

After His resurrection, He appeared to Mary Magdalene.  He immediately told her, “Do not cling to Me, for I have not yet ascended to My Father…  I am ascending to My Father and your Father, and to My God and your God.”  (John 20:17 NKJV)

Then later according to John 20:27 He appeared the 2nd time to His disciples and commanded Thomas to touch Him in order to prove His identity.

Between verses 18 and 19 of John chapter 20, He ascended to His Father (and our Father) and then descended again to show Himself to many others.

But now, His bodily form had changed and at first some did not recognize Him.  (Mark 16:12; Luke 24:15, 36; John 21:1; Acts 1:3)

This new bodily form was His glorified body – He went into heaven (to His Father) to be clothed with His glorified body.

The only Son of man and Son of God to have ascended and then descended to show himself in His new body was Jesus Christ, the first begotten of God!  (Rev 1:5)

  • The Apostle Paul said we could also look forward to such a glorified body, if we are pressing toward the mark (goal) for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.  (Phil 3:14, 20-21)
  • Furthermore, Paul explained that a glorified body is our heavenly house – but only for those who have this hope and continue to walk by faith.  (2Cor 5:1-7)
  • He makes it very clear in these verses (and in Phil 3:10-11), how he was expecting to receive it here on earth.
  • Jesus told the Sadducees in Luke 20:35-36 that certain people, which shall be accounted worthy shall have so much of His resurrection power, they will be called the sons of God and be equal to the angels, having a glorified body.  (Luke 20: 35-36; Jude 1:6a; Gen 6:2, 4)

May we everyday continue to walk in faith.

May we be faithful with what we have been given by the Lord.

May we press on toward this goal to win the prize for which God has called us heavenward in Christ Jesus.
