Proverbs 27:19 (NIV)
As water reflects a face, so a man’s heart reflects the man.
The Bible has a lot to say about a man’s heart.
-
It says, “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked”. (Jer 17:9)
-
There are those who are wise hearted. (Ex 28:3; 35:10; 1Kings 3:12; Prov 10:8)
-
And those who have a proud heart. (2Chron 32:26; Ps 101:5; Prov 16:5; 28:25; Ob 1:3)
-
Those who have a pure heart receive certain benefits from the Lord. (Ps 24:3-4; Prov 22:11; Matt 5:8)
-
A willing heart gives easily and abundantly. (Ex 35:5, 21-22, 29; 2Chron 29:31)
If man can think and make plans within his heart, and if there are imaginations in a man’s heart
– the unseen realm of thought and contemplation –
then how does a man’s heart reflects the man?
The answer is found in one of Jesus’ statements:
For out of the overflow (fullness) of the heart the mouth speaks. The good man brings good things out of the good stored up in him, and the evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in him. (Matt 12:34b-35 NIV)
-
Just listen to people’s words. For eventually, they (or you) will speak from the abundance of their/your heart.
-
You cannot keep it in – good or evil.
-
You may try to withhold the words, bite on your tongue as they say.
-
However, given the right amount of pressure, the lid (mouth) will open and what was stored up will pour forth.
-
We try to suppress this “lid” or even deny the true condition of our hearts.
-
Do you need a change of heart?
May we yield our hearts to the Lord God, Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.
May we together with all those of a pure heart, enjoy all the Lord’s privileges.
(Ps 24:3-4; Prov 22:11; Matt 5:8)
May we in our hearts become willing to give abundantly to the Lord of our time, talents, and substance.
(Ex 35:5, 21-22, 29; 2Chron 29:31)
