Proverbs 24:3-4 (HCSB)

A house is built by wisdom, and it is established by understanding; by knowledge, the rooms are filled with every precious and beautiful treasure.

Again three things are mentioned, wisdom, understanding and knowledge.  (See Wisdom of Solomon #22)

Solomon in his wisdom knew the path to greatness in any area of life.

  1. Get knowledge in you particular field.  The reason people go to Seminars, Colleges and Universities – to acquire knowledge.  This usually results in a higher income.
  2. The next step, which follows knowledge is understanding.  This comes with years of practical experience in your particular field of expertise.  The word “establish” has the meaning of be faithful, be fix, be steadfast, be reliable, be firm.  In other words, someone who has been faithful with applying his knowledge will become reliable, fixed and established!
  3. Wisdom is found among the aged.  (Job 12:12; 32:7)  Although wisdom is mentioned first, it takes third place after knowledge and understanding, but is the most important of the three.

Spiritually speaking, if any Christian wants the true spiritual riches, knowledge is the prerequisite.

Many Christians only want a pat-and-a-prayer, without the effort of acquiring knowledge of God and Christ Jesus.  (Eph 4:13; 2 Peter 1:2, 3, 8, 18; 2Cor 2:4)

This knowledge is an experiential knowledge, where the learner has to apply the things learnt and will then lead to understanding.

The reason Paul told Timothy, Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needed not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth”.  (2Tim 2:15)

Understanding is a God given ability to see the application of the knowledge learnt and implementing it. (Luke 24:45; Eph 1:18)

By being faithful in this process of getting the knowledge of Christ Jesus, and then receiving the understanding from the Spirit of Christ in order to apply the truths learnt, we become established in our faith and in our relationship with the Lord.

Such a person is built on the rock, and will not be moved by any storm in this life.  (Matt 7:24)

This brings wisdom with the years and the ability to build the house of the Lord.  (1Cor 3:9-11, 1Tim 3:15)

May we always seek to know more of Christ and,

May we then become steadfast in our relationship with Him,

And may He uses us to be the master-builders of His house!
